In simple terms domain name flipping consists of buying domain names (the address of a web site e.g "google.com' and then re-selling them at higher prices.

They often spend money upgrading/re-designing the site to make it more attractive to potential buyers. This way the domain name can fetch several times more than it was originally worth.
