It means that the creators of these colossi have achieved their goals. But in 2013 there are a number of new, promising but not so known social media platforms that may just sweep you off your virtual feet. Reputable agencies have frequently talked about the importance of utilizing social media to its full extent. Pheed Facebook and Twitter offer the possibility of sharing content free of charge for the whole world to see (should you choose to) but as both celebrities and entrepreneurs have come to realize, there is a niche they hadn’t yet discovered. Why Twitter Owes Its Existance To Two Way Radios?

Did you know that Twitter owes its existence to two way radios? Honest! Surprised? Shocked? Don’t be – this is 100% true. It is a fact that radio systems have inspired the creation of Twitter. I bet that you still don’t believe this and are probably laughing out loud at my claim. You’re probably wondering that how could a boring technology that’s been in existence since the last 80 years inspire a social networking website that’s grown into a raging hit. You are probably asking: How can a Rip Van Winkle ever inspire a Justin Bieber to stardom? So, the right thing to do is to clear your doubts. Listen to this story: Jack Dorsey, one of the co-founders of Twitter, was a fan of two way radio technology since his childhood (in St. Louis, Missouri). He loved listening to the radio communications on a scanner. Jack would get his kicks listening to what the emergency services department had to communicate. He was fascinated about how things worked in the real world, and it i...

The Importance Of Having The Right (Social Media) Tools For Your Business

Social media is an integral part of marketing for pretty much any business these days. Whether your aim is to increase internet traffic to your website, influence brand perception, research your market or deal with customer complaints, you cannot get away from Facebook and Twitter. The question for marketing teams is not whether to use social media tools, but which ones to use, and how. These days, it's not enough to post the occasional witty comment or update on your company's Facebook page. Even a respectable following on Twitter no longer impresses social marketing teams in itself. In fact, a poorly moderated or un-moderated internet forum can work against your business by being irrelevant at best (people creating conversations unrelated to your product or service) and actively damaging at worst (nothing travels as quickly as unattended customer complaints). And then there's the tricky issue of whether even a successful social media presence actually boosts...

Why Pinterest Works for SEO and How to Screw It Up

Amid the normal litany of online marketing experts decrying that Pinterest’s newfound popularity will be short-lived, it’s probably worth saying at the outset of this post that I don’t think that using Pinterest for SEO is necessarily any more of a panacea than Facebook, Twitter or Instagram is. These are all just tools that can help you build a following and target your audience. With that said, there are some particularly attractive things about Pinterest that make it worth jumping on the bandwagon for. Pinterest is a Short-form Medium This might seem weird, but because most pins on the site are short, bite-sized things, Pinterest visitors stick around longer than on similar sites, like Tumblr. The culture of Pinterest is that of do-it-yourselfers, makers and seekers. Everyone is looking for cool ideas, products and images that they can then curate and share. A site like Facebook is trying to be everything to everyone. Pinterest has distilled itself down to an image sharing...

Social Media Marketing Tips for Small Businesses

Social media marketing is defined as the process of gaining website traffic or attention through social media sites .   By now, most of us know how valuable social media marketing is – some would say it is an essential part of any marketing campaign. For small businesses, social media marketing is especially appealing because it is free.   However, “free” is a bit misleading; there isn’t any currency exchanged, but plenty of resources – mainly time and manpower – are forfeited. Therefore, it is important that small businesses use the most beneficial marketing practices available.   Check out these four ways to boost your social media presence.      1.   Be a person, not just a company. Naturally, you will use your social media account to share information about your business, links to your blog posts, and publicize upcoming events.   However, you shouldn’t use social media solely for promoting your business.   You are, ...

How Social Media Monitoring Can Boost Your Lead Generation

Social media presents new opportunities for lead generation. Historically, marketers were forced to rely upon market research companies, cold calling, and surveys to ascertain consumer attitudes and trends. With the rise of social media, customers discuss their interests, activities, and hobbies in a permanent and public medium. This presents new opportunities for lead generation campaigns and makes it easier to tailor an existing campaign to a particular audience. Generating New Leads Over one third of all new leads today from Internet sources stem from social media. However, generating new leads through social media can be challenging. Everspark Interactive, an Atlanta based SEO agency, points to many social media users being savvy about mailing lists and low quality products. Distributing spam posts across comment pages and bulk mailing activities will not therefore get results. An effective social media campaign requires popular and credible individuals to distribute ...

Facebook to Pay $10 Million to Charity to Settle Lawsuit

Social Networking giant Facebook has agreed to pay $10 million to Charity to settle a lawsuit brought upon them by five Californian citizens. According to reports, the  lawsuit  alleged that Facebook had violated the Californian law by publicising the pages "liked" by the plaintiffs on its "sponsored stories" tab without seeking their permission for the same or paying them and/or giving them an option to opt out. It is a common practice for Facebook to show advertisements on the "sponsored stories'' tab to their members along with the names and the profile pictures of their friends who have "liked" the said advertiser's page. Now, the lawsuit might force Facebook to reconsider this advertising strategy.
