Online Security Tips I Would Recommend You Follow

My Facebook and Google account got simultaneously hacked today. Though I was able to recover my accounts using the password recovery options, it made realise how vulnerable we are to such attacks.

Hackers target your email or social networking accounts to gain access to your personal details. Such data are then used to build extensive databases; which are then sold to marketers. Again some hackers would hack your accounts just for the fun of it.

I would therefore recommend you to follow these online security tips to protect your email and social networking accounts from being hacked.

1. Use strong passwords and change you passwords at regular intervals.

2. Do not use the same password for all your accounts.

3. Spywares are malwares used to track personal information (including passwords). Keep your computer clean by installing an antivirus. Also keep your antivirus up-to-date by downloading the regular updates

4. Avoid accessing your accounts from public computers as these are generally infested with viruses.

5. Use proper password recovery options. Update "secondary email" and your Mobile phone number (recommended). This was how I was able to regain access to my accounts.

6. There are a lot of sites which allow to sign-in using your facebook or twitter account. These websites claim that they do not store your password or other account information, but you can never be so sure. Its always better to be safe than sorry.

I hope you all have a happy surfing experience.
